Launching Datatailr
Opening Datatailr in a Browser
A Datatailr representative or your organization’s Datatailr Admin will provide you with the URL and access credentials for logging into the Datatailr platform in your web browser. Alternatively, if your organization has opted in for Single Sign-On (SSO), you can contact your organization’s Admin for the Datatailr URL and then log in using your SSL credentials.
We recommend using Datatailr in Chrome, but it can be used in other modern web browser versions, such as Safari and Firefox.
There’s nothing to install and no requirements for your local computer.
The Datatailr window opens, showing all the runnables assigned to the logged-in user, as described below. A user may have multiple roles (end-user, developer, Admin) and therefore see any combination of the following accordingly.
End-Users
End-Users will see the runnables assigned to them by developers and the runnables assigned to the user groups of which they are members. Each runnable is represented by its own icon. Runnable icons may be grouped, where each group has its own title. For example, a group of apps for the FX Desk and another for the Commodities Desk. See End-Users for more information about experiencing Datatailr as an end-user of a runnable.
Note – End-users (who are not developers or Admins) only see the runnables that have been published for them by developers and do not see the Datatailr Developer Apps (tools) and Admin Apps (tools) described below.
Developers
Datatailr users who are Developers will see all the Developer apps (tools) provided in Datatailr. For example, as shown below. See Datatailr Developer Apps for a quick tour of the
tools offered to developers in Datatailr or to Developers for a description of how to develop apps in Datatailr.
Admins
Datatailr Admins will see the Admin apps assigned to them. For example, as shown below. See Datatailr Admin Apps for a quick tour of the tools for Datatailr Admins or Admins for the full detail.
Before day one, Datatailr will typically define one or more Datatailr Admins as requested by your organization.
A Datatailr Admin must then log in and perform a few tasks to prepare the platform for developers and end-users. Afterward, these Admins can define additional Admins, developers or end-users.
The Datatailr service team can help you through the initial setup and configuration stage if needed.
See Quickstart for Administrators – Day One in the Life of Datatailrfor more information.
Installing Datatailr as a Progressive Web App [Optional]
Datatailr can be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA), allowing for quick access with just one click and saving screen space by running in its own separate window instead of within the Chrome browser. Datatailr can then be launched from your desktop or the Start menu like any other app.
This setup allows for a more seamless experience, as the PWA Datatailr app functions like a regular app, separate from the browser but still running in the cloud. All functionality and performance are the same, as well as standard features such as clicking, right-clicking, and double-clicking. The primary difference is the URL browser bar, which appears or not, as shown below –
The same applies to the Datatailr code editor, which appears like a locally run editor when Datatailr is launched as a PWA app, as shown below –
Another advantage of running Datatailr as a PWA app is that its windows get grouped together. For example, as shown below –
To install Datatailr as a PWA app –
-
Launch Datatailr in Chrome.
-
Click the in the top-right corner of the Chrome window.
-
Select Save and Share and then select Create shortcut.
-
In the Create Shortcut window, select Open as window and click
Create.
Tip! – Right-click menu options are provided in every Datatailr window, regardless of whether it runs in a browser or as an app.
